ACIS Research Groups – Information

ACIS letterhead 2017
In 2017 ACIS established three Research Groups, entitled Visual and Performance Studies (VPS), Language, Culture and Communication (LCC) and History and Social Science (HSS), covering the major areas of Italian Studies in Australia and New Zealand. Each Group is coordinated by a member of ACIS Management Committtee  and directed by a small steering group of Italian Studies scholars. The aim of the Research Groups is to organise research-related initiatives – workshops and seminars, small pilot projects, visits of overseas scholars, collaboration with Italy-oriented institutions – on key themes within their fields of interest. The initiatives are intended to provide an opportunity for scholars from the many fields under the heading of Italian Studies to come together to discuss research interests and projects. In particular we hope it will offer regular opportunities for postgraduates and ECRs to present their work and exchange ideas.
Each Research Group has a budget of up to A$10,000 a year to support its initiatives, outlined in a plan which is approved by the Management Committee. End-of-year reports have to be submitted and approved before the following year’s funds are released.
The convenors of the three groups are Luciana d’Arcangeli (VPS), Brigid Maher (LCC), Catherine Kovesi (HSS). They will be publicising their initiatives widely and will be very happy to receive enquiries from Italianists interested in the plans for their Research Group.
