Anger and Forgiveness: responses to violence and injustice

250px-Martha_Nussbaum_wikipedia_10-10Ruth Glynn’s post on terrorism and trauma and her recent article on ‘the turn to the victim’ [of Italian political violence in the anni di piombo] published in Modern Italy (2013, 18 (4): 373-390) raise the issues of repentance, anger, forgiveness and justice. These same topics are addressed in Oxford’s 2014 John Locke lectures, ‘Anger and Forgiveness‘, currently being given by Professor Martha Nussbaum (Chicago). She covers their philosophical, historical and political ramifications, drawing on a wide range of public and private cases. The manuscript from which the lectures are taken is also available on request from the same website.
