Each year the Australasian Centre for Italian Studies (ACIS) advertises at least one scholarship, funded by the Cassamarca Foundation, of up to $6000 for Australasians wishing to undertake research in Italy the following year. The scholarships are usually advertised in September, with a closing date for applications in early November and a decision made by mid-December. You will find details of the membership of the committee currently responsible for assessing the applications on the Committees page on the People menu on our home pageThe scholarship is available to students who will be enrolled, full-time or part-time in the relevant year, in master by research or PhD degrees in a university in Australia or New Zealand and who will be engaged in research projects in any of the following areas of Italian Studies: archaeology and classical antiquities, language, literature, culture, history, politics and society, including migration studies.
The successful applicant will be expected to spend at least two months in Italy on research. The award must be taken up before 1 December of the year for which it is awarded.
- Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of Australia or New Zealand
- Applicants must already have a knowledge of Italian adequate for their research purposes. The scholarship will not be awarded to attend a language course in Italy.
- The Cassamarca scholarship may not be held concurrently with an Italian Government scholarship.
- Tertiary academic staff are not eligible to apply for a scholarship.
