ACIS Cassamarca Scholarships for research in Italy - Further Particulars

The Australasian Centre for Italian Studies (ACIS) promotes the activities of research and teaching in the area of Italian Studies in Australasian tertiary institutions. It is supported by the Cassamarca Foundation (Fondazione Cassamarca) which, under the presidency of the Hon. Dino De Poli, is associated with the Cassa di Risparmio della Marca Trevigiana operating in the province of Treviso, Italy. The aims of the Foundation include the promotion and advancement of Italian culture and Latin Humanism throughout the world. Scholarship funding made available by the Cassamarca Foundation is administered by ACIS through the Office of Development and Alumni Relations at The University of Western Australia. The Chair of ACIS is Dr Gino Moliterno at the Australian National University.

The Cassamarca Foundation, through ACIS, is offering up to two scholarships, each worth up to $6,000, which have been established to provide honours-level or postgraduate students at Australian and New Zealand universities with the opportunity to work on their research projects in Italy in 2012.

ELIGIBILITY

The scholarships are available to students who in 2012 will be enrolled, full-time or part-time, in honours, research masters or PhD degrees and who will be engaged in research projects in any of the following areas of Italian Studies: archaeology and classical antiquities, language, literature, culture, history, politics and society, including migration studies. In addition to supporting individual researchers, the aim of the scholarships is to increase the knowledge of Italian culture, broadly defined, in Australasia. Applications will be considered in terms of the contribution they might make to that goal.  Tertiary academic staff are not eligible to apply for a scholarship.

Final-year students who complete their undergraduate studies in 2011 and intend to enrol in an Honours program in 2012 are welcome to apply.

Please note: applicants will already have a knowledge of Italian adequate for their research purposes. Scholarships will not be awarded to attend language courses in Italy.

Successful applicants will be expected to spend a minimum of two months in Italy researching their project. They must provide proof of their enrolment at an Australian or New Zealand university before taking up their award.  Awards must be taken up before 1 December 2012.

A Cassamarca scholarship may not be held concurrently with an Italian Government scholarship.
